How do I make a new reservation online?

Please follow the instructions in the verification email that has been sent to you”. Click close. Within the next couple of minutes you should receive an email from Poplars Resort with the subject line “Please verify your email address”. Click the link enclosed to verify your account. If you’d like to make a new reservation. Enter your “Check-in” and “Check-out” dates by using the date picker. You can use the search box to narrow the results to a specific room. To see all rooms available after entering your dates in the date picker, select the category that you’d like to view. For example, hover your mouse over “Lakeview Chalet” and select “See Listings”. You will see all rooms available for the timeframe specified. Choose “Back to Categories” to go back a page, or select the room you’d like to reserve by clicking on the “Book Now” button. Your previously entered “Check-in” and “Check-out” dates will be auto-filled. The number of guests will default to two adults. Please note that if you are reserving on behalf of a group, the reservations must be done room-by-room. Click continue. If you are adding another room to your booking, select “Add to Booking” at the top left above, the chart. Ensure that the date ranges for all rooms selected match. At this stage, please identify whether you are bringing your own boat, or renting one. Selecting “Boat rental”, “Continue” will show you a dropdown menu of all available boats for your specified timeframe. Select the boat you’d like, and click “Add to Booking”. The system will automatically list the amount as if you are renting the boat for the entirety of your stay. We will make an adjustment on your invoice to reflect the partial reservation for your arrival date. Please note the “Total” listed is in Canadian funds, is for your entire booking and not necessarily what is owed by an individual, and is only an approximate figure.

Once everything has been added to your reservation. Complete the form below with all details that you’d like attached to your reservation. All fields with a star must be completed. Read and accept the “Terms of Service” by clicking the box and clicking “Continue”. The following screen is a secure payment gateway to pay your deposit by Visa, MasterCard, or Discover. As of now, the only option on the website is for one person to pay the entirety of the deposit for the booking, which is still $125 Canadian per person (or approximately $100 USD per person). If you do not want to pay the deposit for everyone in your party, you’ll have to contact us to confirm your reservation as you traditionally have done.

Once your deposit is processed, you will see a new screen that says “Thank you! Your booking has been created.” A copy will be sent to the email associated with your account, or you can select “Print receipt” for your records. Go back to the “Booking Page” to log out of your account. Changes can be made to your booking at anytime up to 30 days before your trip.

Can I bring my own boat?
Yes, you may bring your own fishing boat. Docking and electricity at the waterfront are complimentary for our guests. We appreciate knowing how many boats you'll be bringing and the length of each as we will reserve a dock space for you ahead of your trip.

There is a public boat launch in Newboro, visible from our waterfront. Poplars staff are available to help you launch your boat - just ask!

Do you sell gas for my boat?
Only for our rentals. We have non-ethanol premium and mixed gas available. Guests renting a boat will have their gas tanks filled daily. Our guests who are using their own boats will be directed to a nearby marina.

Gas is not included in our rental rates. Prices will fluctuate and are sold by the US gallon.

Do you rent boats?
Yes. We have several styles of boats for you to choose from, see the list here. We keep our boats gassed for you and equipped with all necessary safety equipment. Assistance is available at the docks to help land and launch your rentals.

At this time, we rent boats only to guests staying with us.

Do you sell bait?
We do sell a small selection of plastics and other artificial bait in our souvenir shop. We do not offer live bait at Poplars. We recommend Norris's Bait and Tackle, which is only two miles from Poplars.

What's the fishing like?
Poplars is situated on more than 100 miles of shoreline over seven lakes, offering variable structure to create fishing experiences for any technique you’d like to try. Popular styles are topwater, drop shotting, texas rigging, crank baiting, live bait to name, and many others. Successful techniques vary depending on the weather and time of year. We are always happy to talk fishing and advise what is working well upon your arrival.

Do you offer ice fishing?
No. Poplars is open seasonally, from the second Friday in May until the first Sunday in October.

Are guides available?
Guides are available in the area. The guiding experience is becoming increasingly popular and there are fewer guides available. If you would like a guiding experience, please book and let us know what date(s) you'd like a guide for as soon as possible and we'll do our best to secure one for you. Guides operate independently of Poplars. Contact us for the average rates they charge.

Will you prepare a bagged lunch?
Yes, we are happy to provide a bagged lunch as many days of your vacation that you'd like. We ask that you let us know the night before and your lunch will be available once you're done breakfast.

Amenities

[ Open All | Close All ]

Do you have air conditioning?
We do not have air conditioning in our rooms at this time. We do provide a fan in each room. We find that the majority of summer days at our end of Newboro Lake offer a cool breeze off the water in the evenings and overnight.

What do you provide in each room?
Think of our chalet rooms as a motel-style cottage. We provide a clean, comfortable, but relaxed place to lay your head. Each room features two beds, with pillows, sheets, and blanket, and a private 3-piece bath. Housekeeping will visit your room daily. All rooms include towels, linens, small bars of soap, electric heat, fan, a happy hour ice bucket, and adirondack chairs on our lovely porches.

Please note that all chalet rooms do not have a fridge. We recommend bringing a portable cooler with you to keep your drinks cool on the porch or while on the boat. We have bags of ice for sale at $2.50 Canadian per bag.

What is available in the lodge?
Our lodge is available to you 24h. It features a porch with a pool table and conversation area, a living room with a large-screen tv and cable, and a games room for cards or boardgames in the evenings or on those rainy days. The lodge also houses our dining room, where you'll come to share three delicious homemade meals a day with your party. Coffee is available starting at 5:30am each morning.

Do you serve alcohol?
We are not licensed to serve alcohol, but you are welcome to bring your own.

Do you have wifi?
Yes, we do. Ask for the password once you check-in.

How do your meals work?
Three homemade meals are served daily in our dining room and are included in our rates, as per the American Plan. Your party is seated together at an assigned table, overlooking our lovely waterfront. We have set meal times as our staff has different duties to attend to throughout the day. Breakfast is served from 7am-8:30am, lunch is served from 12pm-1pm, and dinner is served from 5pm-6pm. Bagged lunches are available upon request the day before.

General

I don't want meals. Do you have a special rate for this?
Poplars is designed to be a vacation destination. Our meals are regarded as one of the best parts of your stay with us! So, at this time, we only offer rates which include three homemade meals served daily in our dining room. We understand this does not suit everyone's plans, so we recommend a couple of lovely "Bed and Breakfast" spots, Dominion House or Daffodil Acres , both within a block from us in Newboro, for you to try. We hope that you stop by Poplars while in the area to see what we have to offer for another time.

Do you serve meals to the public?
We do, when space allows. Reservations must be made the day before as we prepare meals in accordance to the number of people we are serving to reduce waste. Public dining adheres to the same schedule as our guests: breakfast is served from 7am-8:30am, lunch is served from 12pm-1pm, and dinner is served from 5pm-6pm.

What should I bring?
Depending on time of year, it’s best to bring a range of clothes for cold and hot weather. Often the mornings and evenings can be quite a bit chillier than the high of the day. We highly recommend to bring effective rain gear, bug spray, and sunscreen, no matter the forecast. While we do serve 3 substantial meals per day, you may want to bring some snacks and a small cooler for your day on the water. We do have bags of ice available for sale to keep your cooler cold. Linens, towels, pillows, etc are provided in your room. Towels are refreshed daily. And most importantly, your fishing gear! Poplars staff are available to assist with moving your luggage upon check-in and check-out.

Can you accommodate my food allergy?
Yes. Let us know upon booking of any food restrictions.

Can I bring my dog?
Dogs are welcome at Poplars, but we do limit the number we have on the property at one time. Please contact us to find out the demand for your dates.

Do you accept American currency?
Yes, we do. We accept American cash and honor the current exchange rate, or checks in USD. We also accept Visa, MasterCard, or Discover.

I'd like a brochure.
Please email us with your mailing address and we'll be happy to get one to you.

We’re here to help! Email or call us with any questions you have.
